MICSIG SATO 1004 Automotive tablet oscilloscope

The SATO1004 is the latest release from Micsig Technology which supersedes the tBook mini Automotive tablet oscilloscope. This 4 channel scope has undergone a complete redesign and now incorporates a full function manual control panel as well as the touchscreen with revised functions to make set-up and operation much easier, particularly when in the workshop environment.
This tool was designed to be user friendly for new technicians as well as advanced diagnostic techs. You do not need an electronics degree to operate this tool. Incorporated into the software is a comprehensive package of diagnostic presets to enable one touch set-up, for example to test a 12 volt or 24 volt starting or charging circuit select the appropriate test from the menu and the machine will indicate to you what probes to connect to which channel and will set the timebase and voltage scales most suitable for the test.
There are more than 30 presets available including sensors, actuators,fuel pumps, motors, ignition and networks, CAN, LIN, FlexRay etc.
The machine also incorporates an AUTO function which will set the machine to display the major signal sensed as well as full manual set-up. And, of course, the results can be recorded and compared with known good waveforms, but with a little practice, most faults will be immediately obvious.There are many great resources of waveform libraries available, it is also possible to record known good waveforms and save them as reference files which may be displayed at the same time as the subject waveform for immediate comparison. The information can be obtained in as little time as using a voltmeter, but with far more detail, with the convenience and portability of a rugged tablet, no laptop required.
Some of the more common tests we can make with the SATO 1004 are a starter circuit and charging circuit tests, including the FORD Smart Charging system. The ability to monitor the control waveform and output signals can lead us to a rapid and accurate diagnosis of what are now quite complex systems.
We also have the ability to perform relative compression tests, with very simple hook-up and results, often in a matter of seconds.
When diagnosing CAN failures it is often required to disconnect modules, which may be located anywhere around the vehicle. The portability of the SATO 1004 allows us to rapidly move from one location to another as simply as using a multimeter, with the bonus of having all the data you require at your fingertips.
The versatility of the digital recording oscilloscope and the data it can provide to diagnostic techs is now required on a daily basis in every professional workshop. The tests that can be performed using these tools range from simple voltage signals to complex mechanical tests, using the relevant pressure transducers.
